Our history

Maison Trimbach's viticultural origins date back to 1626, and since then, twelve generations of rigorous winemakers and Ambassadors devoted to the passion for Alsace wines have constantly distinguished themselves by the quality and authenticity of their wines, to patiently develop, from father to son, a solid reputation. 16th century

The first Trimbachs arrive from Switzerland to work in the silver mines of Ste-Marie-aux-Mines.

1811

Birth of Jean-Frédéric Trimbach who takes a prominent place in viticulture in Alsace. He contributes to the influence of excellent wines from the unique terroir of the Ribeauvillé fracture field stretching from Turckheim to Saint-Hippolyte, already very famous for their Riesling...

1839

Birth of Frédéric Emile Trimbach. His name still resonates today : he marked the world of viticulture in Alsace, was a fine taster and also a great visionary.

1840

Relocation of the estate to Hunawihr 
Frédéric Emile Trimbach takes over the reins of the estate in the following years.

1875

Diploma of Honor at the Brussels International Fair awarded to Frédéric Emile Trimbach.

Maison Trimbach's international reputation is established.

1626

Jean Trimbach arrives from Ste-Marie-aux-Mines and is received as a Bourgeois in Riquewihr where he becomes a winegrower and winemaker. Years go by and generations follow one another at Maison Trimbach.

1898

Birth of Frédéric Théodore Trimbach.

He was one of the founders of the Syndicat des Négociants et Viticulteurs d'Alsace.

1919

Birth of our Riesling Clos Ste Hune label, pretty much the same ever since.

1920

Maison Trimbach moves to Ribeauvillé where we are still located today.

1945

After the 2nd World War, Pierre Trimbach (the son of Frédéric Théodore Trimbach, the father of Bernard and Hubert), dies. 

1953

Bernard takes over the reins of the estate. He takes care of the vineyard, the administration and he vinifies with a master's hand. With the help of his team and his wife Jacqueline, he suggests that Hubert, his younger brother, joins him to market the wines in the years that followed.

1967

Birth of the Cuvée Frédéric Emile wine  which replaces the Riesling Grande Réserve

1979

Pierre joins the House  to follow in the footsteps of his father, Bernard, after having studied viticulture and oenology in Beaune. 

1985

Jean, his brother, joins them to take care of the export and marketing of wines alongside his uncle, Hubert.

2008

Arrival of Anne , Pierre's eldest daughter, trade, export and web. 

2014

Arrival of Julien,  Jean's son, on the vineyard and cellar departments.

Arrival of Frédérique (Pierre's daughter), procurement and communication department.

1963

In 1963, Hubert joined Bernard when he left HEC Paris. He saw opportunities abroad : he then began to travel around the world for more than 50 years. Hubert was an outstanding Sales Director, and even today, his name makes many connoisseurs dream. He promoted Trimbach wines and was a fabulous Ambassador for the region.

1972

Francois Wilhelm joined us as the Sales Director for French Market. Passionate about wines and gastronomie, he used to be Maitre d’Hotel at Auberge de l’Ill. Hubert Trimbach saw in him something unique and special and hired him. He joined us on 1st of September and stayed devoted to our Family and wines for 50 years.

2021

Arrival of Pauline  (Jean's daughter) to take care of the French market.
